Building Collapses in Kiambu

 3 killed, 6 injured after building collapsed in Kiambu
 
Three people have died and six others injured after a six-storey building collapsed on Monday morning in Kirigiti village, Kiambu town.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and police officers were on site early morning to lead the rescue operations. 

Wamatangi said several people had been trapped in the debris and rescue operations are still underway. 

"Several people have already been pulled out of the rubble, and rushed to the hospital. Sadly, some are feared to have succumbed to their injuries. 

Through the combined efforts of the Kiambu County Fire & Disaster Management Department, Kenya Police, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross and volunteers, the search continues for those trapped under the debris," said the governor.

Three people were on Friday killed and six others seriously injured in a road accident at Kahiro area on the Sagana-Kagio road in Kirinyaga County. Confirming the accident, Kirinyaga Police Commander Mathew Mang'ira said the accident involved a boda boda and a matatu. The police boss said the matatu was headed towards Sagana from Kagio ferrying 14 passengers, and on reaching Kahiro a boda boda rider carrying two pillion passengers reportedly emerged and joined the road on the opposite lane, thereby leading to a head-on collision. Police commander Mang’ira said the six injured passengers were rushed to Sagana sub-county hospital with serious injuries where they are receiving treatment. Bodies of the deceased have since been removed from the scene and taken to Murang'a County hospital. Both the motorcycle and matatu were extensively damaged during the accident and were towed to Sagana Police Station pending investigations.

KEBS suspends 10 edible oils brands

  The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), has suspended ten brands of edible oil and fats for failing to fulfill the acceptable health standards. The ten include; Bahari Fry, Fresh Fri, Fresh Fri with Garlic Oil, Fry Mate, Gold and Pure Olive Gold, Postman, Rina, Salit, Tilly and Top Fry. In a letter to the Retail Traders Association of Kenya (RETRAK) by KEBS Director for Market Surveillance Peter Kaigwara, the organization said the measure was not a ban on the brands, but rather a temporary suspension to facilitate consumer protection from potentially harmful products and to protect producers’ economic interests. “Kindly note that this is not a ban on the brands but a temporary suspension to allow the manufacturers of the non-compliant brands to initiate and put in place effective corrective action under KEGS supervision to ensure that the non-compliant brands comply with the requirements of the respective Kenya Standards and Standards Act Cap 496, Laws of Kenya bef...
